The greenhouse heating system is powered by our Biomass boilers and serves 6 heated houses. It was a mixture of original cast iron and pressed steel pipes, all of which were heavily corroded, leaking and unable to transfer enough heat to the houses. The plant room was a mess – years of altered, patched up leaking and redundant piping and electrics. We had little control of the temperature in each area, and the system would fail on a regular basis.
During the initial site visit, the Harrier team gave a clear answer to the issues. They calculated the output requirements for each zone and formed a plan which would see the Plant Room stripped, remapped and refitted, new wiring and distribution boards installed. Harrier also fitted new underground insulated pipes, finned pipes in 3 of the zones, aspirated sensors in all 6 zones – all of which were connected to and controlled by a bank of multizone controller units.
This has given us complete and accurate control over day and night temperatures in each zone, giving a more stable growing environment. We now have a reliable, clean and efficient plant room which has been well thought out. The controllers are autonomous and straight forward to use by any member of the team. They are also capable of controlling automatic vents, which 3 of the zones are currently being fitted with.
Our next developments include the rebuilding of heated cold frames, with which we have already happily trusted Harrier to work with on this.
The team from Harrier are very experienced with horticultural settings and clearly understand our requirements. The work carried out by Harrier is of a high standard and we have received excellent after-care. It has been a pleasure to work with Harrier and will continue to do so on future projects.
