Handmade Cedar Shades for Victorian Greenhouses

Bespoke Cedar Greenhouse Blinds, Handmade in Suffolk

Our shades are handmade in Suffolk, England. They are beautiful and well crafted, and complete the traditional look of a Victorian Kitchen Glasshouse.

The Function & Aesthetics of Cedar Shades

Cedar shades were a very functional part of a Victorian greenhouse acting to shade plants and produce within the structure from direct sunlight, and also helping regulate the temperature, especially during summer months. By maintaining a stable climate, they serve as a perfect partner to our Heating and Sustainable Heat solutions.

Today they serve exactly the same purpose whilst also creating the classic Victorian look of a glasshouse.

Craftsmanship: Construction & Installation

Sizes and shapes vary depending on the make, shape and size of your greenhouse. Each commission will be measured, hand made & then fitted by our skilled crafts-people on site. Subject to fitting, shades can also be fitted below or above roof vents with fixed sections over the vents.

The shades are constructed from cedar strips that are held together with copper clips. This allows the blinds to be rolled up. They will all weather to a beautiful aged grey (like oak), finish with time.

Black shade cord is then fed around the shade and through pullies to control the rolling and unrolling. Galvanised cleats are fitted on the frame of the glasshouse for the cord to be secured on.

Design Compatibility for Your Glasshouse

The shades work optimally on roof pitches of 30 degrees or more, but it is possible for them to work on lesser pitches with some thought within the design. Our team offers a full site consultation to ensure your shades are designed for your specific roof pitch and vent layout.
